HALF AN HOUR NORWAY: The difference in local content between Radio 1 and Energy’s license applications was just half an hour. That means Energy wins the best network in Bergen reports local newspaper BT. By Endre Juel Lundgren Thursday 12.06.08, 17:17 The Norwegian Media Authority asked applicants for the local radio licenses to estimate how many half hour units of local content they would provide over and above the required 30 minutes. This estimate has been key in the process of granting the new licenses. In Norway's second biggest city, Bergen, there were two 24/7 licenses on offer. NRJ Norge AS offered 11 half hour units, just one unit more than Radio 1 Bergen estimates BT, and won the best network. The local news paper BA also applied, but offered 3 units less than NRJ and ended up with a lesser license. Dag Olav Mosevoll, PC at public broadcaster NRK Hordaland, says Energy is unrealistic. - To me it seems the term “local content” has been completely degraded, says Mosevoll to BT. Mosevoll is also critical to the number of people Energy is planning to use to cover its local content pledge. Currently Radio 1 Bergen have six employees making five to seven halv hour units, Energy is planning to use three. NRJ Norge AS Managing director Richard Mazeret says to BT that their application isn’t unrealistic. He points to the fact that there are about 400 NRJ stations in Europe, and that the company are fully aware of the requirements needed to produce local content. For the listeners in Bergen he promises a local breakfast show, local weather reports, local news and local traffic.. Mazeret says the application was realistic and that the company will employ more people if that is needed to cover Bergen. (BT) |
